Taxonomy

Ptychophylloceras was named by Spath (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-u J Tith]. Its type is Phylloceras feddeni.

It was assigned to Phylloceratidae by Avram and Gradinaru (1993) and Zeiss et al. (1994); to Calliphylloceratinae by Wright et al. (1996) and Arkadiev et al. (2000); to Phylloceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Ptychophylloceratinae by Reboulet (1996), Lukeneder (2004), Murphy and Rodda (2006), Grigore (2011), Grigore (2013) and Sato and Yamada (2014); and to Phylloceratinae by Pallini et al. (2004) and Majidifard (2015).
