Peroniceras was named by de Grossouvre (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-l K Sant-u].

It was reranked as Schloenbachia (Peroniceras) by Kossmat (1895).

It was assigned to Schloenbachia by Kossmat (1895); to Peroniceratidae by Wright (1952) and Wiedmann (1978); to Collignoniceratidae by Thomel (1988); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Peroniceratinae by Kennedy (1984), Klinger and Kennedy (1984), Kennedy and Christensen (1991), Kennedy (1995) and Kennedy et al.
