Pecten pulchellus was named by Nilsson (1827). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Lyropecten (Aequipecten) pulchellus by Dhondt (1972); it was recombined as Microchlamys pulchellus by Sobetski (1977); it was recombined as Dhondtichlamys pulchellus by Waller (2006).
