Taxonomy
Ambonychiopsis was named by Isberg (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde S Wenl]. It is not extant. Its type is Ambonychiopsis osmundsbergensis.

It was assigned to Ambonychiidae by Isberg (1934), Pojeta (1966) and Vokes (1980); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
