Taxonomy
Chelone parvitecta was named by Cope (1870). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Squankum marl pits, which is in an Aquitanian/Burdigalian marine siltstone in the Kirkwood Formation of New Jersey.

It was recombined as Puppigerus parvitectus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Chelonia parvitecta by Hay (1930).
