Paradoxides was named by Brongniart (1822) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm lMid Cm uMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 80]. Its type is Entomostracites paradoxissimus.

It was assigned to Paradoxidinae by Henningsmoen (1952); to Redlichiida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paradoxididae by Jell and Adrain (2002), Landing et al. (2008).
