Priscaenigma was named by Whalley (1985). Its type is Priscaenigma obtusa. It is the type genus of Priscaenigmatidae.
It was assigned to Baissopteridae by Whalley (1985), Whalley (1988); and to Priscaenigmatidae by Engel (2002).
