Taxonomy
Gigantopterus telleri was named by Abel (1906). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Polzberg bei Lunz (NHMW collection), which is in a Julian marine horizon in the Reingrabener Schiefer Formation of Austria. It is the type species of Gigantopterus.
