Taxonomy
Glymmatacanthus was named by StJohn and Worhten (1875). It is not extant. Its type is Glymmatacanthus irishii.

It was assigned to Ichthyodorulites by Hay (1902); to Heterodontidae by Jordan (1963); and to Ctenacanthidae by Maisey (1982).
