Eoptychoptera britannica was named by Lukashevich et al. (2001). Its type specimen is MNEMG 2000.48, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Clockhouse Brickworks (MNEMG collection), which is in a Hauterivian lagoonal mudstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
