Anisopyge was named by Girty (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 624]. Its type is Phillipsia perannulata.

It was reranked as Pseudophillipsia (Anisopyge) by Weber (1944).

It was assigned to Pseudophillipsia by Weber (1944); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ditomopyginae by Owens (2003).
