Holoboreaphilus was named by Campbell (1978). It is extant. Its type is Boreaphilus nordenskioeldi.

It was assigned to Coryphiini by Campbell (1978); to Omaliinae by Cong et al. (1996); and to Coryphiina by Herman (2001).
