Taxonomy

Kalligrammidae was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type is Kalligramma.

It was corrected as Kalligrammatidae by Martynova (1949), Whalley (1988), Carpenter (1992), Engel and Grimaldi (2008) and Engel et al. (2018).

It was assigned to Psychopsidoidea by Martynova (1949); to Hemerobioidea by Whalley (1988); to Planipennia by Carpenter (1992); and to Psychopsoidea by Engel and Grimaldi (2008) and Engel et al. (2018).

Synonyms

Kalligrammula atra was named by Ponomarenko (1992). Its type specimen is PIN 3145/770, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Anda-Khuduk 2 well, Ushgiin-Nur Mountains (PIN collection 3145), which is in an Aptian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Anda-Khuduk Formation of Mongolia.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Liu et al. (2015).
Kalligrammula karatavica was named by Martynova (1947). Its type specimen is PIN 2465/163, a hindwing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Karatau-Karabastau (PIN collection 2465), which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian lacustrine - large siltstone in the Karabastau Formation of Kazakhstan.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Liu et al. (2015).
Makarkiniinae was named by Martins-Neto (1997).

It was reranked as the family Makarkinidae by Martins-Neto (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Kalligrammatidae by Bechly and Makarkin (2016).

It was assigned to Panfiloviidae by Martins-Neto (1997); and to Osmyloidea by Martins-Neto (2002).
