Taxonomy
Carabites gardneri was named by Cockerell (1920). Its type specimen is BMNH In. 19010, an elytra, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bagshot Beds, Bournemouth (BMNH), which is in a Lutetian pond claystone in the Poole Formation of the United Kingdom.
