Holotype: IGM 250941, fragmentary right dentary with p3 through m3, only known specimen
Etymology: Named for a mythical person of the Grand Tolima region of Colombia who decorates himself in jewelery of pure gold and emeralds and seeks sanctuary in the Magdalena River
Taxonomy
Pithiculites chenche was named by Dumont and Brown (1997). Its type specimen is IGM 250941, a mandible (right dentary with p3-m3), and it is a 3D body fossil.

E. R. Dumont and T. M. Brown 1997 | Larger than Pithiculitis minimus and P. rothi. Lower m1 bladelike, exhibitin three denticles (as does P. minimus) and four striations. Denticles are apically positioned, lending trigonid a more squared outline than in P. minimus. Lower m1 talonid uniquely possesses three mesiodistally aligned capsules, but the lingual edge of the m2 and possibly m3 talonid is composed of three small cuspules as in P. minimus |
