A. Rinderknecht and R. E. Blanco 2008 | Josephoartigasia monesi is the largest recorded rodent. Like the only previously known species of the genus Josephoartigasia (Josephoartigasia magna; Francis & Mones 1966), the lophs are covered by a slightly undulated layer of enamel and separated by extremely thin sheets of cement. It is differentiated from J. magna by its larger size and the almost equal occlusal surface area of all its molars. The relative length of the molar series is reduced and the incisors are proportionally mediolaterally wide. |
