Pentremites was named by Say (1820) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 520,904]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pentremitidae.
It was assigned to Echinodermata by Sowerby (1834); to Spiraculata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pentremitidae by Say (1820), Waters and Horowitz (1993), Bauer et al. (2017).
