Tenuimena planissima

Taxonomy
Tenuimena planissima was named by Nikitina et al. (2006). Its type specimen is USNM 485105a, a valve (dorsal valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality F-130a. Kurzhaksai section, which is in an Abereiddian marine sandstone in the Uzunbulak Formation of Kazakhstan. It is the type species of Tenuimena.

O. I. Nikitina et al. 2006Shell almost flat, planoconvex to weakly resupinate; anterior commissure rectimarginate. Pseudodeltidium and chilidium present. Radial ornament unequally and very finely parvicostellate. Ventral interior with small, transverse teeth lacking dental plates. Ventral muscle field open anteriorly, flanked laterally by fine, straight, divergent muscle bounding ridges. Dorsal interior with a simple, undercut cardinal process and small, widely divergent socket plates. Slender dorsal median septum extending anteriorly to mid-valve. Mantle canal system in both valves unknown.
