Taxonomy
Astrocystites distans was named by Webby (1968). Its type specimen is USGD 2302 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Boonderoo, near Cliefden Caves, which is in an Eastonian shallow subtidal limestone in the Belubula Limestone Formation of Australia.
