Taxonomy
Micraster was named by Agassiz (1836) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 956,1043]. It is not extant. Its type is Spatangus coranguinum.

It was assigned to Spatangidae by Djabarov (1964); to Micrasteridae by Fischer (1966); and to Spatangoida by Sepkoski (2002).
