Simpsonotus praecursor
Taxonomy
Simpsonotus praecursor was named by Pascual et al. (1978). Its type specimen is MLP 73-VII-3-11, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Road linking Tres Cruces and Mina Aguilar, which is in a Selandian/Thanetian terrestrial horizon in the Mealla Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Simpsonotus.
