Fadenia was named by Nielsen (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was assigned to Edestidae by Nielsen (1952); to Eugeneodontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Caseodontidae by Zangerl (1981), Nelson (2006), Mutter and Neuman (2008) and Ginter et al. (2010).
