It was assigned to Desmatochelyinae by Weems (1988); to Cheloniidae by Zangerl (1960), Thurmond and Jones (1981), Carroll (1988); to Dermochelyidae by Hirayama (1995); to Chelonia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dermochelyoidae by Bardet et al. (2013), de Lapparent de Broin et al. (2014).
