Taxonomy
Brachysphingus gibbosus was named by Nelson (1925). Its type specimen is UCMP 30526, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 3776, Runkle Canyon, which is in a Selandian marine horizon in the Santa Susana Formation of California.
