Taxonomy
Protrachyceras tetranodosum was named by De Toni (1913). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Valdepena Limestone Quarry, which is in an Anisian/Ladinian carbonate limestone in Italy.

It was recombined as Detoniceras tetranodosum by Fantini Sestini (1994).
