Haplohippus was named by McGrew (1953). It is not extant. Its type is Haplohippus texanus.
It was assigned to Equidae by Carroll (1988), Prothero and Schoch (1989); and to Hyracotheriinae by McGrew (1953), MacFadden (1998).
