Cristatella was named by Cuvier (1798). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cristatellidae.
It was assigned to Phylactolaemata by Bassler (1953); to Bryozoa by Astrova and Morozova (1956); and to Cristatellidae by Boardman et al. (1983).
