Taxonomy
Mesopoma smithsoni was named by Coates (1993) [Dubious generic assignment]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMS 1981.63.43a-b, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Frederichthys-type locality, which is in a Pendleian estuary/bay shale in the Manse Burn Formation of the United Kingdom.
