Taxonomy
Machairodus horribilis was named by Schlosser (1903). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tientsin, which is in a Pliocene terrestrial sandstone in China.

It was recombined as Amphimachairodus horribilis by Jiangzuo et al. (2023).
