Microplasma was named by Dybowski (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 422]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cystiphyllidae by Hill (1956) and Merriam (1973); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).

Merriam 1973Slender cylindrical corallites; in longitud- inal thin section, interior occupied by two to four columns of large globose dissepiments or tabellae which are not readily distinguishable. Wall a stereozone in which septal trabeculae are embedded and from which very short septal ridges project inward. No trabecular septal spines on dis- sepiments or tabellae as in Cystiphyllum.
