Dakotadon lakotaensis

Taxonomy
Iguanodon lakotaensis was named by Weishampel and Bjork (1989). Its type specimen is SDSM 8656, a partial skeleton (skull, mandible, dorsal vertebra, caudal vertebra), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is near Whitewood, SDSM V751, which is in a Valanginian terrestrial horizon in the Lakota Formation of South Dakota.

It was synonymized subjectively with Iguanodon bernissartensis by Naish and Martill (2001) and Ruiz-Omeñaca and Canudo (2003); it was recombined as Dakotadon lakotaensis by Paul (2008), Carpenter and Ishida (2010), McDonald et al. (2010), McDonald et al. (2010), Zheng et al. (2013), Pereda Suberbiola and Ruiz-Omeñaca (2013), Fuentes Vidarte et al. (2016), Gates et al. (2018), Ibiricu et al. (2019) and Rotatori et al. (2022).
