Pseudorthonychia was named by Bandel and Frýda (1999). Its type is Capulus alatus. It is the type genus of Pseudorthonychiidae.
It was assigned to Pseudorthonychiinae by Heidelberger (2001); and to Pseudorthonychiidae by Bandel and Frýda (1999), Bouchet et al. (2005).
