Taxonomy
Turritella bilineata was named by Dechen (1832). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Murchisonia.
It was recombined as Murchisonia bilineata by d'Archiac and de Verneuil (1841), Goldfuss (1844), Knight (1941), Knight et al. (1960), Linsley (1968), Blodgett and Johnson (1992), Frýda and Manda (1997), Blodgett et al. (1999), Amler and Heidelberger (2003), Wagner (2023).
