Glossocrinidae was named by Goldring (1923). Its type is Glossocrinus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Rhenocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978).

It was assigned to Poteriocrinitacea by Webster et al. (1999); and to Dendrocrinida by McIntosh (2001).
