Ctenocolpus was named by Iredale (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Turritella (Ctenocolpus) by Lamarck (1822); it was reranked as Colpospira (Ctenocolpus) by Rosenberg et al. (2006).

It was assigned to Turritella by Lamarck (1822); to Turritellinae by Allmon (1996); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Colpospira by Rosenberg et al. (2006).
