Stratigraphy
Stratigraphy comments: "Known in Iowa from strata belonging to a range of Llandoverian (Rhuddanian-Telychian) ages." |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | shelly/skeletal wackestone
Secondary lithology: | shelly/skeletal packstone
Includes fossils? | Y | ||
Includes fossils? | Y | ||
Lithology description: "The matrix sediments containing this community are variably characterized by skeletal wackestones and packstones, and some grainstones are present."
Environment: | open shallow subtidal | Tectonic setting: | cratonic basin |
Geology comments: degree of skeletal abrasion varies; overturned corals indicate disturbance; intraclasts locally; micritization of skeletal grains (characteristic of photic zone); carbonate mud indicates below effective wave base, but packstones suggest winnowing; position close to wave base preferred BA 2, impinging on BA 3.

Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection: | paleoecologic analysis |
Collection method comments: Petrographic thin-section point counts given for two localities in table 50.14. I have combined these taxa and others mentioned in text. |
