Stratigraphy
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | sandstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: "...the restricted fauna occurs as lags in (0.15 m) decalcified sandstone beds..." | |
Environment: | marine indet. |
Geology comments: "...unlikely to be in situ. On general geological grounds, a shallow water provenance for the fauna is most likely; the fauna itself need not be far travelled. Both the typical assemblage and the similar Pentland Hills occurrence lie stratigraphically between rocks below with a fully marine fauna and Old Red Sandstone facies above. The brachiopods listed suggest a BA 3 position." |
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation: | body |
Size of fossils: | macrofossils |
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes: | some macrofossils |
Reason for describing collection: | paleoecologic analysis |
Collection method comments: Species list include total count and percent abundances. Collection is said to include numerous other species, but these are not listed here, nor are they listed in ref. 6642 (Cocks and Toghill 1973), which is cited as the source of the data. |
