Homoeospira-Delthyris Comm. in E Baltic (Silurian to of Estonia)
Where: Estonia (58.0° N, 22.4° E: paleocoordinates 14.2° S, 0.9° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• basin-level geographic resolution
When: Ludlow to Ludlow (427.4 - 419.2 Ma)
Environment/lithology: marine; lithified marl
• "Each of the species may dominate in an individual bed. The brachiopods are commonly disarticulated, which indicates at least a moderate level of turbulence. However, there are some 5m thick marlstones yielding articulated M. nucula, or well preserved (with spines) P. piltnensis, or both, within intervals assigned to the H.-D. Comm. If one interprets these beds as quiet water, possibly lagoonal sediments, then the H.-D. Comm. represents a rapid alternation of nearshore environments near the end of the Silurian in the E Baltic region."
