Micromorphic Gastropod Community in the Carnic Alps (Devonian of Italy)

Where: Italy (46.6° N, 12.9° E: paleocoordinates 40.7° S, 49.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Emsian (407.6 - 393.3 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; peloidal, gray, yellow grainstone and dolomite

• "A regularly repeated, shallowing upwards, subtidal to supratidal cyclothem (consisting of the following triplet from bottom: (a) gastropod-oncoid rich algal-pellet calcarenite, subtidal; (b) laminated algal stromatolite, intertidal; ;(c) massive birds eye rich micrite, supratidal, is developed here. A high energy, very shallow subtidal to intertidal environment is assumed for this community in a restricted by euphotic-phytal zone...A BA 1 to 2 position is suggested."
• "the small gastropods are commonly found as nuclei of oncoids in algal-pellet calcarenites alternating with partly dolomitized inter- to supratidal stromatolites."
