• 'Following Kotsakis et al. (2003) and Sala and Masini (2007), the rodent assemblage from Rivoli Veronese can be assigned to the M.pliocaenicus zone, which is correlated with the late Villanyan and the MN 17. Moreover, the mammalian fauna is included in the Coste S. Giacomo Faunal Unit (Gliozzi et al., 1997; Kotsakis et al., 2003; Sala and Masini, 2007), which represents the first half of the c2r.1r subchron (roughly between 2.13 and 2.0 Ma) according to Bellucci et al.
