Qingjiang biota at Jinyanghou section (Cambrian of China)

Where: Hubai, China (30.5° N, 111.2° E: paleocoordinates 25.1° N, 157.9° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wutingaspis - Eoredlichia trilobite zone, 2 Member (Shuijingtuo Formation), Nangaoian (521.0 - 514.0 Ma)

• within North Chinese Chiungchusuan Stage (Cambrian Series 2, Stage 3). PJW: This is within the Nangaoian regional stage of South China.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore shelf; lithified, gray, calcareous claystone and lithified, black, calcareous claystone

• 2-m thick sections of "black claystone alternating with submillimeter- to centimeter-thick, light gray colored claystones...these black and gray claystone couplets are

•analogous to the pelagic background sediments and event-deposited claystones, respectively, of the Chengjiang Lagerstätte...the background beds yield only depauperate assemblages of shelly fossils, whereas the event beds contain exquisite preservation of soft-bodied organisms"

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: soft parts
