Where: Buenos Aires, Argentina (38.6° S, 58.8° W: paleocoordinates 38.6° S, 58.2° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• small collection-level geographic resolution
When: Early/Lower Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.8 Ma)
• De Santi et al. 2021: Bidegain et al. (2005) provided a magnetostratigraphi- cal analysis of the Las Grutas and Punta Negra sites that outcrop in the Necochea area (Fig. 1A). These authors recognized up to five levels in the Las Grutas profile (LG5–LG1) with a normal geomagnetic polarity. LG5 is correlated with the Jaramillo subchron (C1r.1n, between 1.07 and 0.99 Ma), whereas LG4–LG1 are cor- related with the Brunhes chron (< 0.78Ma; Fig. 1B). The LG4 level was probably deposited during Oxygen Isotopic Stage (OIS) 11, around 0.45 Ma; on a biochronological criterion, this level is correlated with the Ctenomys kraglievichi Range Zone (Verzi et al. 2004).
