Calliocrinus longispinus-Eucalyptocrinites cf. ornatus Assoc., Eastern Iowa (Silurian of the United States)

Where: Iowa (42.0° N, 90.5° W: paleocoordinates 23.3° S, 53.2° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Welton Member (Scotch Grove Formation), Wenlock (433.4 - 427.4 Ma)

• middle Welton Member, Scotch Grove Formation

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal ramp; dolomitic, shelly/skeletal wackestone and shelly/skeletal packstone

• "Echinoderm thecae very abundant, forming a true thicket flanking or surrounding a central lime mud mound core...Skeletal debris poorly sorted...moderately high dominance moderate diversity BA 3 community, thus far usually associated with mounds."

•SEP environmental call based on given description and same vol. page 807.

• "The most common lithology is a horizontally bedded, noncherty porous, fine-grained echinoderm-moldic dolowackestone, but some packstones are present. Weakly graded bedding is present, as well as uncommon crossbeds, i.e. some evidence of wave activity is present, but the Ferganella Community [associated with this] generally occurred below normal wave base....The comm. probably occupies a middle BA 3 to shallow 4 position."

Collection methods: Some overlap with PBDB collections 24968 and 24969 (Ferganella Community). The brachiopods of this Association belong to the Ferganella Community. Abundances given for echinoderms and selected brachiopods (table 45.19).
