Middle Westphalian flora from Alvarelhos strip (Carboniferous of Portugal)

Where: Santo Tirso, Portugal (41.3° N, 8.5° W: paleocoordinates 7.1° S, 7.1° E)

When: Pennsylvanian (323.2 - 298.9 Ma)

• Assemblage is either Westphalian B or C, although an early Westphalian D cannot be regarded as impossible. In view of the occurance of Linopteris florini, it may be considered unlikely that Westphalian B is represented. A Westphalian C is regarded as most probable.

Environment/lithology: gray mudstone

• Remains collected from outcrip in cleaved light grey mudrock on which they are imprinted with a silvery sheen representing remnants of organic material.

Preservation: mold/impression
