Shestakovo-3 (Cretaceous to of Russian Federation)

Also known as LMCCE 006

Where: Kemerovo, Russian Federation (55.9° N, 88.0° E: paleocoordinates 54.2° N, 84.7° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Ilek Formation, Barremian to Barremian (129.4 - 113.0 Ma)

• "Ilekskaya Suite"; several bone-bearing layers within the main "Layer 1"

•Skutschas et al. 2017: The dating of the Shestakovo 3 locality within the Lower Cretaceous remains controversial: it has been dated as Berriasian (Alifanov et al. 1999), Aptian–Albian (Averianov et al. 2006), and Barremian–Aptian (Kurochkin et al. 2011) based on vertebrates.

•Age of Ilek Formation is poorly constrained but is currently believed to be Barremian-Aptian (see Averianov et al. 2018). The fossiliferous layer at Shestakovo 1 locality was dated to Aptian (Bugadeva et al. 2017). The overlying Kiya Formation has been assigned Albian age based on plant remains (Golovneva and Shchepetov 2010).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; concretionary, gray, green, yellow, calcareous sandstone and brown, gray, green, red siltstone

• Skutschas et al. 2017: The Ilek Formation was deposited under continental environments in the fluvial-lacustrine semi-desert plain (Nesterov 1976).
• "greenish-grey and yellowish-green sands, with calcareous sandstone concretions, interbedded rhythmically with packets of thin-laminated greenish-grey and brown-red siltstones and clay marls."
