Uranayskaya Suite - Uranay River, Smirnykhov District, Sakhalin (Miocene of Russian Federation)

Where: Russian Federation (49.8° N, 142.8° E: paleocoordinates 50.1° N, 141.6° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Uranayskaya Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Uranayskaya suite of the lower "Okobykay" horizon, which lies below the "lower Nutov" (Late Miocene) and above the "Dagi" (Middle Miocene) horizons. THICKNESS: Total thickness of unit is 600 m. AGE: Late Miocene, on the basis of classification into the "Okobykay" horizon. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Composite checklist for the "formation" in this area.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; poorly lithified, concretionary, diatomaceous, silty, cherty/siliceous claystone and poorly lithified, concretionary, diatomaceous, argillaceous, silty, cherty/siliceous sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Not stated in text; assumed to be cool-water relatively shallow setting on the basis of faunal composition.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Clays, clayey sandstones, siltstones, clays, gravelites, conglomerates, interbeds of siliceous siltstone and diatomic siltstones, carbonate concretions. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified, assumed on the basis of age and facies.

Size class: macrofossils
