Where: England, United Kingdom (51.3° N, 2.7° W: paleocoordinates 14.7° S, 0.3° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Black Rock Formation, Tournaisian (358.9 - 346.7 Ma)

• bed 13 is broken into two parts, the bottom part is 64 feet thick with the top of this part located 490 feet above the base of the entire section; the basal chert band within the bottom part lies 27 feet below the top rock exposure in the corner buttress; the top part is 23 feet thick with the top of this part located 513 feet above the base of the section; base taken at lowest chert nodule, lowest chert band 3 feet above base

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal, black, gray, cherty/siliceous limestone

• top part - black to very dark grey fine-grained limestone, with scattered coarse crinoidal debris; massive beds (3/4 - 1-1/2 feet) alternating with shaly beds (6 inches); with chert nodules and irregular patchs; shaly beds less evident below top half - bottom part - black to very dark grey, well-bedded fine-grained limestone with scattered crinoidal debris; chert in well-marked bands and nodules

Preservation: replaced with silica

Collection methods: abundant silicified fossils found in upper part of bed
