Waukesha Lime and Stone Company quarry (Silurian of the United States)

Where: Waukeshaw County, Wisconsin (43.0° N, 88.2° W: paleocoordinates 21.4° S, 53.5° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Brandon Bridge Formation, Telychian (438.5 - 433.4 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Brandon Bridge Fm, which unconformably overlies the Kankakee Dolomite, and conformably grades up into the Waukesha Dolomite. AGE: Latest Llandovery; based on graptolite biostratigraphy; Monograptus spiralis. Conodonts from the top of the Brandon Bridge Fm also support a late Llandovery-early Wenlockian age. Early Telychian according to Haug et al., 2014. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From a 12 cm thick layer overlying the lowest 2 m of strata.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; lithified mudstone and lithified dolomite

• Fine scale lamination with limited bioturbation suggests deposition in an anoxic, possibly brackish, environment.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Finely laminated mudstone and dolomite. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of figured specimens and facies description.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: adpression, soft parts

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Not stated in text. REPOSITORY: University of Wisconsin.
