Type specimens:

  • Dimetrodon grandis: AMNH 4034 (not 4130-4134, as erroneously stated by Case, 1907), a set of postcrania (vertebrae and pelvic elements). Its type locality is Beaver Creek, 42 (Arroyo Formation), which is in a Kungurian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Arroyo Formation of Texas.
  • Dimetrodon maximus: MCZ.
