Proterosuchus fergusi Broom 1903 (archosauromorph)

The holotype (SAM-PK-591) is undiagnostic. In order to stabilise the species, Ezcurra & Butler (2015) proposed a neotype RC 846

  • Proterosuchus fergusi: RC 846, a skull. Its type locality is Ruygte Valley 321, Middelburg, which is in an Induan/Olenekian terrestrial horizon in the Katberg Formation of South Africa.
  • Chasmatosaurus vanhoepeni: TM 201, a skull. Its type locality is Harrismith Commonage, which is in an Induan/Olenekian terrestrial horizon in the Normandien Formation of South Africa.
  • Elaphrosuchus rubidgei: RC 59, a skull. Its type locality is Barendskraal Farm, which is in an Induan/Olenekian terrestrial mudstone in the Balfour Formation of South Africa.
